The 2027 QX65 Is Coming — Here's How It Compares to the QX60 You Already Know

Two INFINITI SUVs. One name family. Very different vehicles. If you've been following the QX60 for a while and recently heard about the QX65, you're not alone in wondering how the two relate — and which one might be the right fit for your driveway in Calgary.

The 2026 QX60 and the 2027 QX65 share INFINITI's commitment to refined performance and thoughtful interiors, but they serve different buyers with different priorities. This guide breaks down the key differences so you can walk into Hyatt INFINITI with a clear picture of what you're looking for.

Design: Traditional SUV vs. Fastback Statement

The QX60 follows a more traditional three-row SUV silhouette — upright, wide, and built around maximizing cabin volume. The 2026 update gave it a bolder front grille inspired by the QX80, an illuminated INFINITI emblem, and restyled lower bodywork. It's a confident, polished look built around functionality.

The QX65 takes a very different direction. INFINITI describes it as a fastback SUV, with a dramatic arching roofline that flows toward a crisp rear spoiler. The stance is lower and wider, drawing inspiration from the brand's iconic FX model. It's also the first INFINITI to offer Sunfire Red paint — a three-layer finish embedded with genuine gold-coated glass flecks that shift in the light.

  • QX60: Upright 3-row silhouette, refreshed for 2026 with QX80-influenced front end
  • QX65: Low fastback roofline, wider stance, exclusive Sunfire Red paint with gold glass flecks

Seating and Interior Space: Family Hauler vs. Driver-Focused Cabin

This is the most fundamental difference between the two vehicles. The QX60 seats up to seven passengers across three rows, with the AUTOGRAPH grade offering second-row captain's chairs for a six-seat configuration. It's built for Albertan families who need to carry everyone — and Alberta winters mean you often need that third row filled with gear and people at the same time.

The QX65 seats five across two rows. The second row slides, reclines, and folds to balance passenger legroom against cargo needs, and the cabin focuses more on driver experience and material quality. AUTOGRAPH gets semi-aniline leather seats with asymmetrical diagonal quilting and a massaging front seat function. Space per passenger is generous, but the QX65 makes no claim to being a seven-seat vehicle.

For cargo, the picture flips slightly. With the second row up, the QX65 offers 1,014 L — notably more than the QX60's 411 L with its third row occupied. But with everything folded flat, the QX60's 2,135 L total beats the QX65's 1,917 L, because it's a larger vehicle overall.

Performance: Same Engine, Sharpened Character

Both SUVs use the same powertrain foundation: a 2.0 L 4-cylinder VC-Turbo engine producing 268 hp and 286 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and standard Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. Both are rated to tow 6,000 lbs (2,722 kg) when properly equipped.

Where they differ is in tuning. The QX65's transmission has been calibrated with a sportier, more aggressive shift schedule, giving it a more eager feel off the line. INFINITI also added Active Sound Enhancement to the QX65, which amplifies sportier exhaust harmonics while Active Noise Cancellation keeps unwanted tones out of the cabin. The QX60 has Active Noise Cancellation but not Active Sound Enhancement.

Both vehicles handle Calgary's highways and winter roads with Intelligent AWD as standard equipment — no trim upgrades required.

Technology: Shared Foundation, Notable QX65 Additions

Both vehicles share a strong technology baseline: dual 12.3-inch displays, Google built-in with Google Maps, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and ProPILOT Assist as standard equipment.

The QX65 adds a few meaningful upgrades on top of that:

  • Qi2 wireless charging (with a cooling fan and up to 15 watts of output) is standard across all QX65 grades
  • ProPILOT Assist is standard on all QX65 grades, including LUXE — the QX60 configures this differently across its five-trim lineup
  • ProPILOT Assist 2.1 (hands-off freeway driving capability) is available on QX65 AUTOGRAPH
  • 64-colour ambient lighting with four Japanese-season-themed colour presets is available on the QX65
  • Active Sound Enhancement is exclusive to the QX65

Audio systems are comparable: both offer a 16-speaker Klipsch Premium system starting at SPORT grade, and a 20-speaker Klipsch Reference Premiere system with Individual Audio on AUTOGRAPH. The QX65 AUTOGRAPH also adds the new Personalized Sound app, which customizes audio balance to your individual hearing profile.

Which Model Is Right for You?

The answer comes down to two questions: how many people do you regularly carry, and what kind of driving experience matters most to you?

The 2026 QX60 is the right choice for Alberta families who need three rows of seating, the flexibility of five trim levels, and a spacious, practical cabin that works hard year-round. It's available now and proven in the conditions that Calgary drivers know well — long commutes on Deerfoot, winter runs to the mountains, and everything in between.

The 2027 QX65 is the right choice for drivers who want something visually distinctive, sportier in character, and focused on a premium two-row experience. With its fastback silhouette, sharpened driving dynamics, and a more concentrated lineup of three well-equipped grades, it's aimed at buyers who prioritize the drive itself. It's set to arrive at INFINITI retailers in early summer 2026.
